Creating the Extraordinary Student Experience

Ohio State Emergency Grant

The Ohio State Emergency Grant is designed to provide assistance up to $1,000 to students at risk of dropping out of college due to unexpected financial emergencies. This assistance was created to help students stay in college and meet their educational goals, ultimately, securing a better financial future.

  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student (no minimum hours required)
  • Have an expected family contribution (EFC) at or below $7,000
  • Have a documented financial emergency (tuition and fees are excluded)

  • Meeting. We strongly recommend all students begin the application process by scheduling a meeting with the Student Life Student Advocacy Center to discuss eligibility and to help you prepare any relevant documentation. To schedule, contact us by e-mail or by phone (614) 292-1111.
  • Application. When you are prepared to start your application, please complete the following form: Ohio State Emergency Grant Online Application
  • Award Notice. After submitting an application, the student will receive an e-mail to their OSU e-mail account as soon as possible notifying them if their application was approved, and if so, how much funding will be awarded.
  • Payment. The university works diligently to process third-party payments as soon as possible following the award notice. Funding will never be disbursed directly to the student.
  • Financial Education Training. To help prevent financial emergencies in the future, Ohio State is committed to providing all students with the opportunity for free financial coaching from Scarlet and Gray Financial at the Student Life Student Wellness Center. All recipients of the Ohio State Emergency Grant are expected to receive training once their immediate emergency is resolved.
